Setting up Microsoft Outlook Express (POP3)

The following tutorial will walk you through configuring Microsoft Outlook Express to interact correctly with the Web-1 Hosting mail system.  Each step is accompanied by textual directions and an image with example settings. Please note, your username, password, and email address will vary from those displayed in the images.

If you have trouble with any of the steps presented in this tutorial, please create a support request.

Steps 1 - Opening the "Accounts" Window

The first step in creating a new account for Outlook Express is to click on "Tools" menu and then the "Accounts..." menu option.

Step 2 - Adding a new account

After the accounts window opens, click on the "Add" button on the top right of the window.

A new menu will expand, prompting for the account type. Chose "Mail..."

Step 3 - Your name

The next window will ask for your name. Please enter your name as you wish for it to appear on emails you send and then click the "Next >" button.

Please remember, the name in the image below is only for reference. You must use your own name when configuring your Outlook Express client.

Step 4 - Internet E-mail Address

The next window will ask your email address, please enter it and then click the "Next >" button.

Please remember, the email address in the image below is only for reference. You must use your own email address when configuring your Outlook Express client.

Step 5 - Email Server Names

This window will prompt you for three peices of information:

  • Type of server: POP3
  • Incoming mail server: mail.web-1hosting.net
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.web-1hosting.net

When you have entered the server type and the incoming and outgoing servers, please click the "Next >" button.

Step 6 - Internet Mail Logon

You will now be asked for your "Account name" (username) which is your email address. You will also be asked for your "Password", which is the password assigned to your email account when it was created.

Please remember, the email address (username) in the image below is only for reference. You must use your own email address (username) when configuring your Outlook Express client.

When you have entered your username and password please click the "Next >" button.

Step 7 - Finish the Account Wizard.

You will now see a window that congratulates you on setting up your new email account.

Please note, although the wizard has completed, you are not finish setting up your new account.

Click the "Finish" button to continue.

Step 8 - Account Properties

After clicking OK, you will be taken back to the Internet Accounts window. Please click on the "Mail" tab at the top of the window, then click on the account for "mail.web-1hosting.net", and then click on the "Properties" button.

Step 9 - Servers

When the properties window opens, click on the "Servers" tab at the top of the window.

Verify that the option for "My server requires authentication" has been checked.

Step 10 - Outgoing Mail Settings

Now click on the "Settings..." button to the right. A new window will open prompting for "Logon Information".

Please verify that the option for "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected then click "OK".

Step 11 - Advanced settings.

Once you back at the properties window, click on the "Advanced" tab located at the top right of the window.

First, verify that "This server requires a secure connection" is checked for both the outgoing (SMTP) server and the incoming (POP3) server.

Next, verify the Outgoing (SMTP) server has its port number set to "465". You will most likely have to change this from "25" to "465".

Next, verify the Incoming (POP3) server has its port number set to "995".

After verifying the secure connection options, please click on the "OK" button.

Step 12 - Setup Complete

You will now once again be at the Account Properties window. To complete the setup, simply click on the "Close" button.
